Finding your way around the guitar fret board with confidence will improve your playing in many ways, but it’s a skill that lots of us overlook in favour of learning the latest cool lick or riff.

It doesn’t take much effort to learn the notes, after all there are only twelve of them, so take the time and commit to learning a little more of the neck each time you pick up your guitar and you’ll quickly be able to name any note, under any of your fingers, in any area of the neck.
On the diagram I have left out the sharps and flat notes to make it easier to digest when starting out, but its a simple matter to add those when you get the whole notes in your mind and under your fingers.
