Teach Yourself Easy Guitar Songs

When teaching yourself guitar, it will really inspire you if you can quickly find some easy to play songs.
The songs to be interested in are tunes that are quite simply arranged, that dont contain difficult chord shapes, and are catchy and easy to play properly.
If you can make quick progress and sound good within a short space of time, you'll be motivated to move on to more advanced guitar lessons sooner.

Below are a few songs that I think are ideal for beginners. They dont contain many chords, and the shapes that you need to play are very achievable, plus they sound good. Have a go with them and let me know how you go on.

GOOD RIDDANCE (Time Of Your Life)
This tune Green Day is very catchy, and sounds good on both electric and acoustic guitar. The chords that you will need are G Major, C9, D Major and E Minor.
The main thrust of the song comes from what the strumming hand is doing.
In the original recording the chords are strummed quite quickly, but if you are a guitar beginner start off slowly and build speed gradually.

MERCY- By DUFFY
Now this tune is slightly different from the ones that you will usually come across on your search for easy songs to play. This is because the guitar part is a melody, not chords.
Pick out the repetitive bassline on your guitar starting on the G note at fret 5 of the 4th string.
I am sure you'll find this easy to play but also very satisfying, as it may be a few simple notes but the effort is with the playing in time, and staying right on the beat.

BLUES SHUFFLE PATTERN IN A MAJOR
Every beginner guitar player should be able to play a simple blues. Usually 12 bars in duration, start by playing 4 bars of A, followed by 2 bars of D, then another 2 bars of A, followed by 1 bar of E another 1 of D, then finish with 2 bars of A.
This is your basic blues, play solid down strums, bang on the beat. Get used to doing this consistently preferably using a metronome or a drum machine. This is a solid foundation for exploring 'da Blues' more deeply.

AMERICA
This tune by Razorlight can be quite intricate and involved sounding to start with, but if taken to its most basic, the chords are G Major, A Major, D Major and E minor. Play it using a relaxed strumming technique, its very meditative.

Thes are just a few tunes to get you started making progress on the guitar.
Have fun with them, dont get too hung up on getting the sounds and notes perfectly clear to start with, just aim to get into the music and keep working consistently on getting better.
Learning the guitar is fun, remember that at all times. If it starts to get annoying just put down the guitar and come back to it later.
